Job Description

A Motor Coach Operator for Wise Coaches is a person who is a leader, takes on great responsibility, is flexible, has great communications skills, and takes initiative. As the face of Wise Coaches, safe on-time driving, excellent customer service, dependability, and professionalism are the foundations of this company. Operators are always in the public eye so professional dress and behavior is required at all times. All operators must communicate effectively with your customers and be able to move/lift baggage and packages weighing as much as 70 pounds. Detailed records such as driving logs and safety records must be recorded and maintained.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Driving the motor coach safely with or without passengers onboard
  • Will be required to dress in an appropriate uniform
  • Responds to Dispatch in a timely manner
  • Attend ongoing training
  • Prepares for trips by thoroughly reading work tickets prior to trip
  • Adheres to all traffic laws and DOT regulations
  • Maintains awareness of driving conditions and scans environment for possible safety hazards
  • Conducts comprehensive pre-trip and post-trip inspections
  • Obtains and reviews the inspection book from motor coach
  • Documents mechanical malfunctions and other problems on proper forms
  • Assists passengers boarding and disembarking
  • Loads passenger baggage and packages with care
  • Operates ADA lift and attaches ADA mobility aid restraints
  • Communicate rules for riding to passengers
  • Communicate if there is a problem or issue with the motor coach
  • Takes necessary actions to protect the safety and well-being of passengers
  • Answers passenger questions to the best of his/her ability
  • Acts in a friendly and courteous manner
  • Completes all required documentation and maintains driver logs/ELDs
  • Completes all trip documentation in a timely fashion

Minimum Requirements


  • High School Diploma
  • At least 25 years of age
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Must have TN Commercial Driver License (class A, B, or C with Passenger endorsement,
    S endorsement needed to drive school bus)
  • Be able to lift up to 70 lbs
  • Pass Criminal Background Check
  • Pass road test with Safety personnel

Employment and Background:

  • Verification of the last seven(7) year of residency and ten(10) years of employment
  • Explanation for any gap in employment exceeding thirty(30) days

Motor Vehicle Record:

  • Minimum five(5) years of Motor Coach driving experience
  • Must have a clean driving record

Drug Testing:
Applicants must pass a pre-employment drug screen

FTA/FMCSA and DOT Requirements:

  • Must have ability to pass a FTA/FMCSA/DOT mandated physical examination with a minimum one(1) year card
  • The willingness to comply with FTA/FMCSA/DOT substance abuse regulations and testing requirements outlined in CFR 665 and CFR part 40
